The Most Common Car Heater Problems

Eric Flores - Sunday, December 28, 2014

Car heaters are an important comfort component of your vehicle. These crucial heaters that keep you warm inside your car may require periodic attention to function optimally. Unlike other parts of your car, your car heater does not demand too much attention but car heater repair is a common problem. Pay attention to minor car heater repair issues to avoid expensive replacements or repairs.

1. Instead of blowing hot air, your car heater could be blowing cold air. Your car heater actually makes use of the heat generated by the engine rather than having separate heating equipment. If your car heater is blowing cold air then it means that the heat from the engine is not made available to the heater system. You need to take your car to a car repair shop to get your car heater diagnosed and repaired.

2. Car heater not blowing any air. The second most common problem is that the car heater fails to blow any air. In this case the problem is with the fan. You may have to service the fan or replace it depending on the nature of the problem. There could also be blocks in the vents that are preventing the air from reaching the car interior. Either way, you need to have your car’s heating system tested by a qualified technician so that you are not shivering behind the wheels.

3. Car heater controls not responding. There could be problems with your car heater’s control system. As a result you may not be able to increase or decrease the heat level in the car. A working heating system should be able to control the heat level to maintain a comfortable environment within your car. Your car’s heating system has to be diagnosed thoroughly by your car heater repair company to identify the problem.

Whenever there is a problem with your car’s heater, it is best to take it to your car repair shop rather than trying to resolve the problem yourself. If you try to repair your car heater yourself, you can aggravate the issue and end up with expensive repairs. It is important that you do not delay taking your car to the repair shop because faulty car heating system could be the result of some other underlying issue. Always take your vehicle to a licensed and insured repair shop in your area to preserve the integrity of your car.
